05/15/2018 11:39 AMThe doors – and trucks—at Branford Fire Headquarters will be wide open to welcome the public to a jam-packed Open House & Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, June 2, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Branford's professional and volunteer firefighters invite the community to come on over to the town's state-of-the art firehouse at 45 North Main Street. Residents of all ages are welcome to enjoy complimentary food and beverages and take in demonstrations including vehicle extrication, training facility use, thermal imaging cameras, tours of the fire house and apparatus (fire engines, trucks and more). The open house also features kid-friendly fire prevention talks and visits to the ever-popular Smoke Trailer.
Another special offering on the day will be 10-minute training sessions to learn "Sidewalk CPR" led by the South Central Connecticut Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN). The "hands-only" CPR method can be learned in about 10 minutes. Applying immediate CPR to a person in crisis can double or even triple a person's chance of survival, according to AACCN.
The Branford Fire Department team's invitation to all reads "
Come meet your local Branford Firefighters. Take a tour of the firehouse. Watch various demonstrations including motor vehicle accident extrication. Take a look in the new training facility and learn how to see with the thermal imaging camera. There will also be talks on community safety and awareness. "
