Person Fatally Struck by Acela in Westbrook
An individual who was struck by an Amtrak Acela train on the tracks in Westbrook this morning has died, according to State Police.
Officials at State Police Westbrook Troop F said the victim's identity has not been released. Troop F is supporting Amtrak police, which will head up the investigation.
Officials said the Acela Express 2153 train was traveling from Boston to Washington, D.C. hit a person who was trespassing on the tracks shortly before 8 a.m. Amtrak officials then said the Acela 2153 train “will be terminated” at New York Penn Station and all passengers would be transferred to a different Acela train. No crew or passengers have been reported injured.
The Amtrak Northeast twitter page announced a service disruption on the tracks early this morning but gave no further details.
“All service that operates between New Haven, CT (NHV) and Providence, RI (PVD) is currently stopped due to a trespasser incident,” the tweet read. “This currently impacts Train 2190, 190, 2150, 170, 95, and 2155. We will update once more information is available.”
