Tabor Arts in Branford's 'Peter Pan' Captivated Audiences
The last weekend of April, 2018, Tabor Arts in Branford had their debut show of the 2017/2018 season. Peter Pan Jr. flew audiences off to Neverland during the sold-out Friday night premiere, and returned for both Saturday evening and Sunday morning shows; selling over 225 tickets.
Last summer, Tabor Arts went through a rebranding, hiring on new directors; Jamie Petrone and Colin Sheehan. Sheehan, a Branford native, compiled a crew of local artists who took on assistant directing, choreography and set design; many of whom Sheehan worked with on Branford High School's Shrek. Peter Pan Jr. was Tabor Art's most professional and intricate show in the last decade. The Lost Boys were excitedly singing and acting from a two-story tree house as Peter Pan himself pondered what it means to grow up; while Captain Hook was chased off stage by a crocodile on a skateboard.
The cast sang and danced their hearts out during their multi-show weekend. Petrone and Sheehan gave Branford and the local theater community a taste of what we can expect in future shows. The cast did grow up: after working with professional and experienced directors and crew, the fifteen students ranging from grades 2 - 8 ended Peter Pan Jr. with a wealth of knowledge about stage-biz that is already being utilized in Tabor's encore spring production, "Disney Magic Cabaret." The casts of Peter Pan and Disney Magic Cabaret will close out the 2018 Branford Festival mainstage on Sunday June 17.
This summer, Tabor Arts will be kicking off a series of educational workshops by bringing a brand-new "Mastering the Audition Workshop" to Branford. The workshop is designed for students ages 6 - 21, who want to develop audition techniques with industry and Broadway guest artists. "Mastering the Audition" will be celebrating our tenth season with tickets to Broadway's biggest blockbuster, "Wicked." All participants will experience an audition with a New York City casting director, and take part in a "Broadway Classroom" where they will learn an actual number from the show with cast members from Wicked!
Tabor Arts is thrilled to announce our fall 2018 production will be "Willy Wonka Jr." for grades 2 - 8. As a staple in children's community theater in Branford, Tabor Arts takes pride in offering affordable options for children of all levels of experience. We are also pleased to announce our first high school cabaret: "On Broadway". We will be building a show from the ground up featuring some of Broadway's greatest show tunes. Enrolling in this class will also give each student one on one time with our music director and acting coach/director. No previous theatre experience is needed. Open to high school students from any community.
