04/25/2018 09:00 AMIt’s time to get your garden beds ready for spring planting, and the Westbrook Garden Club’s annual Garden Market can provide the plants you need for a dramatic display. This year the Garden Market will be held at Westbrook Town Hall instead of the Town Green on Saturday, May 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
For those wanting to plan ahead, the Westbrook Garden Club will be taking pre-orders for geraniums and petunias (find an order form with this story at Zip06.com or can contact Garden Market Co-chair Rachel McNellis at rem1949@hotmail.com).
“We will sell annuals, vegetables, garden gifts, and wonderful member plants,” said McNellis. “This year we are adding baked goods, too. This one of only two fund raisers and the profits from this sale and the fall mum sale fund our yearly $1,000 scholarship to a Westbrook High School student [and] the planting and maintenance of the town’s 22 window boxes and 13 planters.”
“This year is the 60th Anniversary of our club and we are hoping to have the best sale ever!” said McNellis. “Our Facebook page can be found on Westbrook Garden Club of CT.”
The Westbrook Garden Club welcomes new members. Meeting are held on the third Monday afternoon of each month in the Community Room of Westbrook Public Library. The meetings in June and December are of a social nature while the others have speakers. The meetings are free to all and open to the public. Interested parties can contact the club at westbrookgardenclubct@yahoo.com.
