Chester RTC Organizing the 26th Annual Town-Wide Tag Sale
With spring weather finally arriving, it’s time to think about clearing out the clutter. Right on cue, Chester’s annual Town-Wide Tag Sale is returning for its 26th year on Saturday, May 26.
Those 11x17-inch maps of tag sale sites will be sold at local businesses the day of the event. Those seeking to clear out that garage or attic have until Wednesday May, 23 to sign up for a place on the map.
Homeowners can put a tag sale on the map for $10 and businesses can advertise on the map for $25. On tag sale day, shoppers can purchase the map for $1 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. follow the trails of tag sale destinations. The map will list tag sale locations as well as where to find parking and public restrooms.
The Chester merchants inaugurated the event in the 1990s, eventually handing the event’s organization to the Chester Historical Society. After a second transition, this will be the sixth year of the Chester Republican Town Committee organizing the event.
Chester Republican Town Committee Treasurer Meredith Devanney said she has “received interest, but no checks have come in yet for people” wanting to put their tag sale on the event map.
“As the weather starts to warm up, people will get into spring cleaning,” and that will drive them to think more about the upcoming opportunity to declutter.
The Town-Wide Tag Sale attracts visitors from around the state, and beyond. This year Devanney hopes to see if the town will allow food trucks in a few locations to lure even more people in.
