Reed Will Not Seek Sixth Term
Branford State Representative Lonnie Reed (D, District 102) will not seek a sixth term in the 2018 state election. Reed made her announcement in the following letter, which she shared with Zip06/The Sound on April 23:
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I want to take a moment to announce that I will not be seeking re-election as State Representative for the 102ndDistrict. It has been an incomparable honor to serve the people of Branford in the Connecticut General Assembly for what will be ten years. I am proud of the all work we have done together to protect and enhance our extraordinary community.
Although I look forward to beginning a new chapter in my life, I will continue to be an advocate for the things that we, as a town and a state, care deeply about. That includes education funding, senior citizen services, veterans needs, business concerns, science and research, affordable healthcare, environmental sanity, clean energy and a new era of economic growth built on a responsible state budget; one that has been painstakingly restructured to promote a sustainable future generating jobs and opportunities.
Thirty years ago, when I was searching for a home, I chose to buy in Branford because I found it to be one of the most beautiful places I’d ever been; beautiful because of its scenic wonders, but also because of its unrivaled spirit. Without being asked, Branford people always step up to help one another. They eagerly volunteer to provide an abundance of services for neighbors in need. And when disagreements arise – as they do in every family – most Branford residents interact with respect and civility.
Representing you all these years and getting to know so many of you personally has been a privilege and a joy. I am grateful for your wisdom and support and humbled by the faith you have placed in me. I will forever cherish your friendship and I look forward to exploring what’s next as we continue on life’s journey.
Warmest Regards,
Lonnie Reed
CT State Representative
102nd District, Branford
