04/06/2018 08:51 AMLocated at the base of Branford's "Hamburger Hill" since the late 1970's, Wendy's Restaurant is about to get an upgrade, inside and out. Fans of the famous fast-food burger joint can rest assured the business will not close during renovations, which will take about three weeks from start to finish once they get underway, said representatives of the 1007 West Main St. business.
On April 5, Branford's Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) approved a modified site plan brought by Cornerstone Consulting Engineers and Architects (PA) on behalf of franchise owner, Casamay LLC of New Haven. The PZC voted unanimously to approve the application. The next step is to securing a town building permit in order to begin work.
Exterior plans call for upgrading the single-story, stand alone restaurant with drive-thru at the corner of West Main St. and Alps Road to match the corporation's updated façade and signage. Construction work calls for an addition of a minor (47 square-foot) building "bump out" to allow for upgraded, ADA-compliant guest restrooms inside. The plan also will bring outdoor lighting into compliance with town zoning seeking less light "trespass" by following International Dark-Sky Association guidelines. Zoning-required landscaping will also be installed. The parking lot will be repaved and relined, with updated handicapped parking spaces included. There will be no additional curb cuts or changes to the current traffic patterns to enter and exit the property.
Inside, the restaurant will do away with it's "step-down" into the solarium and improve the dining space.
