04/04/2018 08:30 AMFor the third year in a row, the Westbrook Board of Selectmen (BOS) voted on March 22 to have the annual town budget vote at a town meeting rather than in a town-wide referendum.
The BOS set the Town Meeting to act on the proposed 2018-’19 budget for Tuesday, May 15. The exact time and place for the budget vote will be confirmed at a later date.
As in each of the past three years, the BOS also agreed that the town should send to all property owners a “Citizens Guide to the Town of Westbrook Budget.” The citizens guide is intended to inform voters before they vote about the budget and the state of the town’s finances.
“We will prepare the Citizens Guide and then send it out to all property owners around April 22,” said First Selectman Noel Bishop.
The selectmen decided three years ago to shift from a town-wide budget referendum to a town meeting vote as a result of low voter turn-out in the recent referendum votes.
