03/15/2018 12:01 AMThe Exchange Club of Madison recently honored Erica Mallon, the daughter of Daniel and Sharon Mallon, with the David Bell Scholarship Award for February Youth of the Month. The Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) senior was nominated by the DHHS faculty, and completed a competitive application including an essay entitled “Strengthening America through Socially Responsible Communities.” She has performed outstandingly in DHHS and community activities, attained an excellent grade point average, and demonstrated personal achievements and awards.
Youth of the Month Program Chairman David Bell presented Mallon with a $300 award and a commemorative plaque. Mallon is a high honors student, as well as a member of the National Honor Society, Eco Club, Leo Lions Club, DHHS Marching Band, Concert/Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and the Shoreline Youth Symphony in which she plays the trumpet. She has participated in DHHS junior varsity cross-country, indoor and outdoor track, and DHHS Hands On Stage.
While studying at DHHS, Mallon was an active member of the North Madison Congregational Church Group where she was involved with mission trips, and served as a Junior Deacon and assistant teacher at Church School. Mallon received awards for math, science, social science, and a PTO Band Recognition Award. She also achieved a high purple belt ranking in judo.
For next year, Mallon has been accepted at Villanova University and has applied to a number of other colleges including Dartmouth, Lafayette, Lehigh, Boston College, Colgate, UConn, and Bentley.
