12/19/2017 02:24 PMSilk’n Sounds, an all-women’s award winning chorus based in Greater New Haven area, recently collaborated with girls from the North Haven High School concert chorus (including members of the school’s a cappella chorus The Key of She), a jazz trio, and renowned vibraphone player Arthur Lipner for a Winter Swing Voices and Vibes concert held December 10 at the high school auditorium.
Silk’n Sounds director Kia Lampe-Onnerud said it was a holiday extravaganza with different types of music, including pop tunes, jazz and fun rhythms. A portion of the proceeds will benefit New Reach, an organization that provides emergency shelter and services for women and children, and Lampe-Onnerud hopes to spread awareness about the organization.
“We’re delighted to be able to partner with New Reach,” she said, “We think in this day and age it’s really important that we connect as a community, so that’s other objective of the concert.”
Lipner, an award-winning musician who has played worldwide, praised Lampe-Onnerud’s energy and the energy of the chorus. He said it was a challenge to perform with an a cappella chorus, but was excited to perform at the concert.
