Middle School Building Spending Topic of Special North Haven Meeting
The Board of Selectmen (BOS) will hold a special meeting on Monday, Dec. 11 to provide a line by line review of expenditures relating to the Middle School Building Project. The meeting, held at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room in Town Hall, will include time for public comments and questions.
The reason for the meeting stems from a petition that was discussed at the Nov. 2 BOS meeting. The petition was started by Alicia Clapp and signed by several residents, and called for a special Town Meeting to consider a full review of current and planned spending for the project to ensure all funds are being properly appropriated. The petition also called for an audit of current and planned spending for the project.
After lengthy discussion and debate among the BOS, Clapp, residents, building committee members, and Town Attorney Jeff Donofrio, First Selectman Michael Freda suggested a compromise in the form of a special BOS meeting at which expenses would be reviewed line by line with the opportunity for public comment and questions, which was agreed to and voted on by the BOS.
