Branford's Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Memorial Post 12106 recently honored one of its own by renaming its organization as Walter Dymarczyk Memorial Post 12106, Veterans of Foreign Wars, according to information shared by the Post.

The official renaming took place at the VFW Post hall, 99 Indian Neck Ave. on Sunday, Dec. 3. Branford VFW Commander Elliot Hastings and Post members unveiled a commemorative sign above the main entrance doors. Four generations of Dymarcyzk family members attended the unveiling ceremony on Dec. 3, including the late Dymarcyzk's wife of 69 years, Vadis Dymarczyk.

Walter Dymarczyk was a proud World War II Army veteran and dedicated, long-serving VFW Post member. Born in New Haven in 1922, he was a well-known Branford resident who also supported his community by volunteering with Branford Food Pantry until the age of 90. Dymarczk passed away at age 94 on July 24, 2016.
