North Branford Rally Called to Support Schools Chief
A citizen is calling for a Sunday, Nov. 19 rally outside North Branford Town Hall, following the Board of Education's (BOE) Nov. 16 split vote on extending the Superintendent's contract by one year (see Zip06/The Sound coverage of the Nov. 16 vote here ).
Citizen Lynn Riordan, who spoke in support of Superintendent of Schools Scott Schoonmaker at the Nov. 16 BOE meeting, told Zip06/The Sound she began planning the rally early on Nov. 17 and is, "...calling on all North Branford citizens who care about our school district and the reputation of our Superintendent" to participate.
Riordan is encouraging supporters, especially students and parents, to gather with her at 1 p.m. on Sun. Nov. 19 with signs of support to protest what she termed the "ridiculous decision of the Board of Education," on Nov. 16.
Riordan had briefly served as an interim BOE member (October, 2017) but was not reappointed following a majority vote of the Town Council on Nov. 14 (see the story here).
