Branford Police Cracking Down on Holiday Drunk Drivers
November 16, 2017: Branford Police officers will be out in force this holiday season, patrolling the roadways for intoxicated drivers. The effort in part is due to a Connecticut Department of Transportation grant that the department has received for a number of years to crackdown on Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
Last year, officers removed six drunk drivers from Branford roadways. Additionally, officers issued 214 citations for moving violations and warned over 73 drivers, while stopping a total of 280 motorists during the grant period which covers all of the major holidays.
"Our department remains vigilant in making our roadways safer. This grant allows our agency to supplement our overall mission during the holidays." said Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran. "Intoxicated drivers pose a substantial risk to other drivers and the public, and our aim is to eliminate driving under the influence."
