Madison’s DHHS Students Released Early Due to Mercury Spill
Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) students are getting out of class early today due to a mercury spill. No injuries have been reported and the early dismissal is being called an environmental precaution.
School officials notified the community via an e-notify alert around 11:30 a.m.:
FYI. We were made aware moments ago of a malfunction of a relay switch on a kiln at Daniel Hand High School that led to mercury spill. It was contained to this one area and the room was closed off. As a precaution, we were advised by CT DEEP (Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) and our environmental cleanup consultant to dismiss the high school early. We anticipate student dismissal at 11:45 a.m.
