Incumbent Democrat Sally Buemi an ‘Active Selectman’
Incumbent Third Selectman Sally Buemi is running on the Democratic ticket for selectman under first selectman candidate Alan Sturtz. As a selectman, Buemi is active in town, often attending other town board and commission meetings as a member of the public.
“I think that I am a very active third selectman, and I will continue to be so if I’m fortunate to be re-elected to the board again,” Buemi said.
Buemi said she’s proud to use her position on the board to initiate action in town, including the current renovation of the Town Green Cemetery stones and the special recognition of World War II veterans at the Memorial Day Parade in 2015.
She writes an online column at northhavendemocrats.org to not only help keep residents informed of what’s going on, but also to encourage them to participate in town meetings, such as those held during the budget process. As an attorney, Buemi said she’s able to use that background to offer suggestions about legal documents the town works with, such as contracts and real estate agreements.
Some of the issues she’s focusing on now include the state’s budget situation and how it could affect North Haven, and researching fire and medical emergencies to see if there are ways the town’s Fire Department can improve response time, efficiency, and care for those in an emergency situation.
“I really work hard on the Board of Selectman, and I take my responsibility currently as the minority party representative very seriously,” Buemi said.
Buemi said she has a proven ability to offer other ideas and views, and while she doesn’t disagree for the sake of disagreeing, she said discourse leads to better decision-making so the best possible decision for the town can be made.
