10/11/2017 04:57 PMOctober 11, 2017: On Wednesday, Oct. 11, State Representative Sean Scanlon (D, District 98) announced his office is holding an essay contest for Guilford and Branford middle school students in honor of Veterans Day, which will be celebrated this year on Friday, November 10, 2017.
"Each year, Veterans Day gives us a chance to thank veterans in our community for their service and reflect on the importance of that service," said Scanlon. "This year, I invite Branford and Guilford middle school students to let our local veterans know how much they mean to us by submitting a short essay thanking them for their service."
Scanlon invites all middle school students from grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 to answer the question "Why Should We Thank Veterans?" in 200 words or less. One winner and runner-up will be chosen from each middle school (Walsh in Branford and Baldwin and Adams in Guilford) and the winner will be invited to read his or her essay at each town's Veterans Day ceremony.
All essays are due by Friday October 27th at 5pm and should be submitted via email to sean.scanlon@cga.ct.gov or via mail to:Rep. Sean Scanlon, Legislative Office Building, Room 2802, Hartford, CT 06106-1591
