09/15/2017 12:00 AMEast Haven Police have arrested a 36 year-old man in connection with a July 8 robbery of a Sunoco Gas Station on Frontage Road in East Haven.
According to police, Christopher Francis was unarmed when he entered the Sunoco station at 80 Frontage Road on July 8. He put a couple of small items on the sales counter and handed the employee a dollar bill.When the employee opened the cash register Francis jumped up on the counter and grabbed at the cash in the open register. The employee told officers that he tried to stop Francis from reaching the cash drawer but was overpowered and forced to back away. Francis grabbed the cash from the drawer and fled the area in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee which was later determined to be a rental vehicle.
Through the investigation and with help from the community, the East Haven Police Department's Investigative Services Division learned that Francis was also responsible for an attempted robbery at the TA Travel Center in Branford earlier in the evening on July 8.
Francis was arrested on Sept. 13 while he was attending court for an unrelated matter. He was charged with robbery in the third degree and larceny in the sixth degree. He was held on a court ordered $30,000 bond and had an initial court date of Sept. 14.
