East Haven Rallies Around Teen Trapped Under Tree
A 16 year-old junior at East Haven High School is receiving an outpouring of support following a fluke accident yesterday that sent him to the hospital.
Nick Vessicchio was mowing his lawn yesterday afternoon when a tree under which he was working snapped, pinning him beneath and causing severe injuries. According to East Haven Firefighters Local 1205, firefighters responding were able to lift the tree off the teen using saws, cribbing, airbags, and the assistance of police officers on the scene. Firefighter medics and AMR medics continued life saving measures until he was transported to the hospital.
A GoFundMe page formed to assist the Vessicchio family has raised more than $10,000 at press time. The page states:
“Nick Vessicchio, 16, junior at East Haven High school, was severely injured on Thursday, July 27, 2017, when he was mowing his lawn and unexpectedly a tree snapped and trapped him underneath.
