Independence Day is right around the corner and there are plenty of events lined up in town to celebrate, including the Concert on the Green, the annual fireworks display, and the 38th Annual Exchange Club of Madison Independence Day Parade.

The Concert on the Green kicks off the celebrations on Saturday, July 1. The concert is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with numerous featured bands preforming a variety of music, including patriotic favorites. No alcohol is allowed on the Town Green at this event and those interested in learning more about the concert or ways to become a patron can visit madisonculturalarts.org.

On Monday, July 3 at 9:30 p.m., the Madison Fireworks are scheduled to go off over the water. Residents can view the fireworks from Surf Club Park, East Wharf Beach, and West Wharf Beach. However, parking will be very limited, a majority of the roads in and around viewing locations will be closed to car traffic, and residents are asked to obey all police signs. The rain date for the fireworks is Friday, July 7.

A free shuttle bus service is available starting at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the fireworks. The shuttle will pick up residents at Samson Rock Drive/Stop & Shop, the Railroad Station on Bradley Road, and the Route 79 commuter parking lot at I-95, and then return residents once the show is over.

Rounding out the holiday festivities is the 38th Annual Exchange Club of Madison Independence Day Parade on Tuesday, July 4. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and runs from the Stop and Shop parking lot through the center of town and down to the Surf Club. Parade Chairman Tony Raccio said over 300 people are expected to march in the parade and veterans are invited to march, as well.

“The Grand Marshal this year is the Madison Historical Society which celebrates its 100th year,” said Raccio.

Those participating in the parade are asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m. to get in formation. With so many people expected to participate and attend, the parade will require road closures.

Madison Police said residents should expect traffic delays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the following affected roads: Boston Post Road, Wall Street, Samson Rock Drive, Durham Road, Meigs Avenue, Academy Street, Copse Road, Island Avenue, Britton Lane, West Wharf Road, and Lantern Hill Road. During the parade, there will be no public access to the Surf Club or the Madison Country Club.
