Westbrook Blight Rule Moves to Town Vote
A June 15 Town Meeting saw electors act to move a Blight Rule to a July 13 town vote, defeat a proposed sale of marsh land to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and agree to endorse a Valley Shore Y application to the state for tax credits to support energy conservation upgrades.
The Board of Selectmen voted earlier this month to automatically send the blight ordinance rule to a town-wide referendum on Thursday, July 13. As a result, the first Town Meeting action item on the blight rule was adjourned for a decision in the town-wide vote. An absentee ballot will be available at the Westbrook Town Clerk’s Office for those property owners and residents who will be out of town on the day of the vote.
In other action, the Town Meeting also approved the transfer of funds saved in the Board of Education Capital Reserve Accounts into project accounts for the high school exhaust fan work, the middle school gymnasium upgrade, and the schools windows replacement project.
