Starting on May 13, Town residents using the transfer station will have a new face to greet them.

On April 27, the Board of Selectmen accepted the Department of Public Works recommendation to appoint Greg Bonin of Old Saybrook as the town’s new Landfill/Transfer Station operator.

Public Works Director John Riggio said that the town had 10 applicants for the open position; seven were viewed as qualified and were interviewed. Greg Bonin was the search committee’s choice.

The Transfer Station position is part-time at 24 hours per week. As a result, the position carries no benefits.

The initial hourly rate is set at $20 with the rate rising to $22 an hour after Bonin successfully completes a loader operator class.
