Relay for Life of the Shoreline May 13 at Branford's Walsh School
On Saturday, May 13, relay teams from five towns will gather at Branfords' Walsh Intermediate School (WIS) for the American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life of the Shoreline 2017, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
The annual event fills the WIS track with teams from Branford, North Branford, East Haven, Guilford and Madison as they circle the field to help raise funds to support programs and people through ACS.
The heartwarming day is built to attract a crowd of supporters who are encouraged to come to the site to help cheer on the teams and take in moments including the Opening Ceremony, Survivor's Lap and nightime Luminaria lighting.
All-day entertainment and offerings including food from Superdupergrub Food Truck (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.) will be among the family-friendly options for people who come out to see the relay.
Ann Marie Moreira, ACS Community Manager, Relay For Life New England Division, encourages area residents to stop in, join local volunteers and participants from the community, and celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost to the disease, and take action to save more lives from cancer.
The opening ceremony, which includes a special Survivors and Caregivers Lap, will begin at 12 p.m. A Luminaria Ceremony to honor cancer survivors and remember those lost to cancer will take place at 9 p.m.
ACS Relay for Life events take place across the globe each year.
Donations are used to fund live-saving cancer research, patient support programs, prevention information and education, and detection and treatment programs.
WIS is located at 185 Damascus Road in Branford. Visit Relay for Life of the Shoreline here to learn more about the event, donate to a team or individual, or to place an order for a luminaria to be lit that night. To contact Ann Marie Moreira, call (203) 563-1537 or AnnMarie.Moreira@cancer.org
