A Fresh Look for Old Saybrook’s Youth Agency Building
The Main Street home of the Youth & Family Services Agency will soon receive a long-needed exterior fact lift, not long after a 2016 interior renovation that addressed a mold issue.
Earlier this month, the town solicited and received several bids to paint the exterior of the building. And last week, the Board of Selectmen voted to appropriate $40,000 to pay for the project, $35,280 for the contracted work plus a ten percent contingency.
“The paint is peeling, the porch needs work. We solicited a few bids. This $40,000 [appropriation] encompasses $20,000 in painting and $10,000 in carpentry,” said First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Jr. “The painter is switching to a Sherwin-Williams product that, once applied and inspected, would have a 10 year warranty.”
Fortuna said the funds for carpentry work is to allow the contractor to replace rotten wood that will likely be found as the exterior walls and window areas are prepped for painting.
The request for funds now moves on the Board of Finance for approval.
