'Pizza Wars' Firing Up in North Branford
Who makes the best slice around? At the invitation of North Branford Recreation Department and Senior Center, makers of the town's finest pizzas will bring their best to the table at Stanley T. Williams (STW) Community Center on Tuesday, April 25 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. to let a hungry crowd decide.
In 2016, 200 residents turned out to the to taste, then vote, for their local favorite among seven North Branford and Northford restaurants. The name of the restaurant which wins North Branford Pizza Wars 2017 will be etched beneath the "Golden Pizza Cutter" on a permanent plaque which hangs in STW.
Since the wars began in 2010, bragging rights for North Branford's best pies have been spread among many worthy restaurants in the community. Last year, after the flour dust settled, the winning restaurant was Tony Z's Apizza of Northford, in a repeat win of the 2015 title.
All North Branford and Northford pizzerias are encouraged to get involved in this friendly competition which helps generate funds to support North Branford Senior Center programs and activities. There's still time for interested pizza restaurants to sign up to participate, said Kerry Haynes, Senior Program Coordinator. For more information, contact Haynes at (203) 484-6017 or via email at seniorprograms@townofnorthbranfordct.com
Following last year's ground rules, pizzerias will deliver only their finest cheese pizzas for guests to sample on April 25. Desserts to follow the main dish will be available from Pastry Fusions. A raffle, music and fun activities are also planned for this family night out.
All proceeds from the ticketed event ($5 in advance, $7 at the door; children under three free) benefit efforts of North Branford Senior Center. Tickets are available in advance at STW or can be purchased at the door (1322 Middletown Ave.) on April 25. For more information, call (203) 484-6017.
