North Haven Replacing Mailboxes Damaged During Plowing
First Selectman Michael Freda said he was pleased with the snow removal efforts stemming from Winter Storm Stella on March 14. However, the heavy nature of the snow led to concerns about town residents’ mailboxes during the removal efforts.
Freda said he was out with Public Works crews during the storm, and noticed that some mailboxes had come down during plowing due to the icy and heavy snow.
The town faces a dilemma when plowing: If the town does not plow close enough to the road edge, the Post Office is unable to deliver mail. If the town does plow closer, especially with heavy, wet snow, mailboxes could be damaged or come down completely.
If a mailbox was damaged as a result of plowing from the storm, residents should call the Public Works Department at 203-239-5321, ext. 400; the department will fix or replace mailboxes determined to have been damaged by town plows.
