03/21/2017 02:45 PMAfter months of delay tied to extended bid document reviews by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the Town of Old Saybrook finally was cleared earlier this month to release the North Main Street reconstruction project to bid.
Bids will be opened today, Thursday, March 23, at Town Hall at 2 p.m.
The project, which will begin later this spring, will rebuild the full roadbed of the two-block stretch of North Main Street. New drainage, sidewalks, and decorative street lighting will be added and, once the road is rebuilt, the road will be repaved.
Throughout the construction project, town leaders have said they expect at least one lane of traffic to be able to travel on North Main Street.
The project’s costs will be offset by funds the town received from the State of Connecticut Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP). More than $1 million in grant funds have been awarded to the town for the project.
