'Know Your Town' RTM Coffee & Conversation in Branford
The League of Women Voters of the East Shore (LWVES) invites Branford residents to a "Know Your Town" Coffee and Conversation, where they can get to know more about Branford's Representative Town Meeting (RTM) from its leaders.
The coffee and talk will be held on Saturday, April 1, 10 - 11 a.m. in the Branford Fire Headquarters Meeting Room (second floor) at 45 North Main St.
RTM leaders Dennis Flanigan (Moderator), Adam Hansen (Clerk), Ray Ingraham (Majority Leader) and Chris Sullivan, (Minority Leader) will discuss what the RTM is, how it functions and current issues before it (think budget). All are welcome and invited to join in the conversation.
This event is part of the League of Women Voters–East Shore's "Local Government Initiative" to educate Shoreline residents about their local government with the goal of their becoming more engaged in local processes.
"We often hear from Branford citizens that they would like to learn more about their own town's government and in particular the Representative Town Meeting," said Carol Reimers, President, League of Women Voters of the East Shore. "This is an opportunity for new and long time residents to get up to date information on the RTM."
The RTM is the town's legislative body, made up of thirty elected members representing seven voting districts. The members of the RTM choose one of their members to be Moderator of the RTM, who presides over all its meetings. The RTM meets the second Wednesday of every month.
