Austin Haughwout, 20, of Clinton was arrested and charged today with possessing child pornography in the third degree after what the Clinton Police Department called a lengthy investigation. Haughwout was released on a court-ordered written promise to appear and provided a court date of Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Middletown Superior Court. The arrest warrant was sealed by the court.

Haughwout first made headlines in 2014 when he posted footage of his being assaulted by a beach-goer at Hammonasset Beach State Park, apparently in response to his using a drone to photograph her. The following July, he faced scrutiny from the Federal Aviation Administration after he posted a YouTube video of a drone he had weaponized with the addition of a semi-automatic handgun. He was also arrested in July 2015 for assault when he allegedly resisted arrest when turning himself in on unrelated motor vehicle charges. Later that year, he posted video of a drone he had equipped with a flamethrower. In June 2016, he was arrested for possession of child pornography. He was charged with enticing a minor, attempted sexual assault in the fourth degree, and risk of injury to a minor in October 2016.
