12/21/2016 11:01 PMThe Westbrook Elks Lodge held its 17th annual Toy Run on Nov. 13. The Toy Run was originally started by Tim Ryan, former owner of the Driftwood Restaurant in Clinton. The Toy Run was then taken over by the Elks when Ryan retired. This year’s run started at the Westbrook Elks Lodge with a breakfast at 9 a.m. At 11:45 a.m., 150 motorcycles and riders left the lodge in a shotgun start and proceeded to one of three additional collection locations, including the Highliner Cafe and Doc’s Bar & Grill in Westbrook, and June’s Outback Restaurant in Killingworth. At 3 p.m., they returned to the lodge with a large trailer load of new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to family services in the towns of Westbrook, Clinton, and Old Saybrook. Each bike and rider donated $10 and a new, unwrapped toy. The $10 donation was used to purchase additional toys from a local department store.
