Madison Holiday Celebration Now a Two-Day Event

Santa’s arrival, as seen in this photo from 2015, is always a highlight of Madison’s holiday festivities. This year, the traditional tree lighting will take place on Friday, Dec. 2 while Santa will center a series of downtown activities on Sunday, Dec. 4. Photo by Kelley Fryer/The Source

This year, Madison’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa Visits will be held on two separate dates. The Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. near the Town Green, and is sponsored by Madison Beach and Recreation. As always, caroling and cocoa will accompany this event and everyone is encouraged to join in.

In place of the usual parade this year, the Madison Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an afternoon of holiday festivities downtown, an old-fashioned Downtown Holiday Celebration on Sunday, Dec. 4. As always, visits with Santa Claus on the porch of the Café Allegre will be the center of activity, starting at 2 p.m. with Santa’s arrival on a horse-drawn sleigh. Children are invited to visit with him until 4 p.m. on the porch of the Café Allegre, where cocoa and cookies will be served. Donations of non-perishable food items are always welcome at that time to help out patrons of the Madison Food Pantry. Hayrides, storytelling, gingerbread house displays, face painting, Christmas caroling, great shopping, free cocoa, and live music are on order for the day, and the chamber promises a family-friendly way to usher in the holidays in town.

Coordinated by the Madison Chamber of Commerce, the activities are generously sponsored by local businesses, which can be viewed at madisonct.com. After the downtown festivities end, the Madison ABC Concert will take place at the First Congregational Church on the Green at 4:30 p.m.

For more information on any of the activities, contact the Madison Chamber of Commerce at 203-245-7394 or chamber@madisonct.com.
