Branford's DuVig Brewery Earns Bronze in International Beer Competition
DuVig Brewing Company of Branford has received a bronze medal for taking third place with their Cream Ale in the 20th Annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition (RI).
The competition featured 814 beers and ciders from breweries andcideries across the U.S. and from around the world.
The DuVig Cream Ale, the flagship offering from the family-owned DuVig Brewing Company, was entered in the Light Ale category of the competition. It is one of the first beers the brewery produced and, at present, is the only beer they offer in canned as well as draft form.
"We brew our Cream Ale to have a slight malt flavor with a nice crispness that is accented with American hops added for flavor and aroma, but without bitterness," said DuVig owner and brewer Dan Vigliotti. "The hops we use in our Cream Ale produce a harmony of flowers, fruit, earth and spice. While it's definitely a thirst quencher, what makes it different from many Cream Ales is the slightly stronger flavor profile."
The competition gathered 130 professional brewers, beer industry retailers and distributors and beer journalists to act as judges in a blind tasting format. First, second and third place awards were presented in 58 categories of ales, lagers and ciders. The judges knew only the style and subcategory of each beer and cider.
Started by the Dugas and Vigliotti families, both of Guilford, the DuVig Brewing Company offers brews of Cream Ale, as well as a Pale and Brown Ale, on a year-round basis. They also brew a variety of seasonal beers and, this past summer, began brewing beer with hops grown on local farms such as their Dudley Farm Harvest Ale.
"We started this brewery as next door neighbors who shared a love for home brewing and sharing our beers with friends and family," said co-owner Kim Vigliotti. "Since we opened two and a half years ago, we've expanded our offering to include a variety of sophisticated brews craft beer fans love, such as IPAs, sour beers as well as wet-hopped Pales and Ambers brewed with fresh and local hops."
Find DuVig Cream Ale on tap at their brewery tasting room, at numerous local bars and restaurants including our newest partner, Pepe's Pizzeria in New Haven, as well as in cans at package stores and grocers such as Stop and Shop and the Big Y.
