Treehouse Wish Granted for Clinton’s Eddie Gonzales
On Nov. 6 at 4 p.m., Wish Kid Eddie Gonzales of Clinton climbed into his brand new treehouse for the first time—but this was no ordinary treehouse. Gonzales’s dream structure became a reality thanks to Make-A-Wish Connecticut, and the incredible talents and hard work of Derek “Deek” Diedricksen of HGTV and Relaxshacks.com fame.
Gonzales, who suffers from a life-threatening medical condition, had always wanted his own treehouse, so when he was approached by Make-a-Wish, that’s exactly what he wished for. He had some specific ideas in mind for his wish, the most important being that Diedricksen be the individual who designed and personally built his dreamhouse. For Make-a-Wish Connecticut, this was a first.
Diedricksen, however, was flattered that Gonzales had chosen him to make his wish come true, and was thrilled to be asked to participate in such a meaningful project. Over the course of the past month (and more than 40 hours of travel to and from his home in Massachusetts), Diedricksen completed Gonzales’s treehouse, including all the elements he wanted.
The house is insulated, and even has a clear front so it would light up at the big reveal. There is a loft inside big enough for a full-sized bed; it includes IKEA furniture throughout (generously donated by IKEA); and even includes a Lego-themed wall that is equipped for Gonzales to attach and build Legos onto.
“We are so thrilled that Eddie’s wish has finally come true,” said Make-A-Wish Connecticut Marketing & Communications Manager Michael Dominick. “Deek’s support of Eddie during this difficult time, and his generosity and talents combined, have resulted in a wish experience that will last Eddie far more than a week, a day, or even a year. For Eddie, he will always have his treehouse to spend time in and relive the magical day when he climbed in for the first time!”
