Madison Voters Choose Clinton in Presidential Election

In the Nov. 8 presidential election, Madison voters leaned toward Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Clinton took 5,935 votes, 54 percent, and Trump took 4,500 votes, 41 percent, according to the Connecticut Secretary of the State.

Voter turnout on Election Day was high in Madison. Out of 13,335 registered voters, 11,179 ballots were cast, resulting in an approximately 84 percent voter participation rate.

For District 12 state senator, Madison voters favored incumbent Democrat Ted Kennedy, Jr., over his Republican opponent Bruce Wilson, Jr. Kennedy, who was re-elected, received 5,533 votes for the Democratic Party and 325 votes for the Independent Party. In town, Wilson took in 4,682 for the Republican Party and 157 votes for the Independent Party.

State Representative Noreen Kokoruda (R), who was running unopposed, was re-elected for the 101st District with an unofficial total of 8,167 votes in Madison. Kokoruda received 7,061 votes for the Republican Party and 1,106 votes for the Independent Party. Kokoruda said she was pleased to be able to serve another term.

“I want to thank people for the tremendous amount of support.” said Kokoruda. “I think the vote shows that they know I continue to work for them every day. I love this community, I love representing this community, and I look forward to working really hard for them in Hartford.”

Reflecting on the District 12 Senate race, Kokoruda congratulated Wilson on his campaign and Kennedy on his re-election.

“I respect [Wilson’s] passion for community service and I look forward to continuing to work with him for the town of Madison,” she said. “I congratulate Ted Kennedy on his second term in office and will continue to work with him for what is best for all of our constituents. They both ran a good, hard-fought campaign.”

For the Madison Registrar of Voters, William Gowanlock (D) received 4,330 votes and Peter Metz (R) received 5,977 votes. Both registrars were re-elected.
