A mother pushing her one year-old son in a stroller was struck by a motorist yesterday afternoon in Branford, at the I-95 underpass on East Main Street near the Exit 55 off ramp. The mother and son received serious, but not life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made as police continue to investigate the accident. The driver of the vehicle involved is a North Branford resident.

On Monday, Oct. 17 at about 3 p.m., members of Branford Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a woman and her child being struck by a motor vehicle on East Main Street, at the I-95 underpass between the exit 55 off ramps. When officers arrived they located a female, later identified as Rina Corsi (DOB 04/02/74) of 320 East Main Street and her one year-old son, Jackson Chancio, lying in the roadway.

Witnesses told police that Corsi was pushing her son in a baby stroller, along with another child who was walking, when she pushed the stroller into the travel portion of the roadway to avoid debris. At that point, Corsi and her son Jackson were struck by a vehicle being operated by Lynn Delgiudice (DOB 08-29-42) of 25 Church Street, North Branford, who was traveling southbound.

Corsi and her son were treated at the scene by Branford Fire Department Paramedics and later transported to an area medical facility for serious, but none life threatening injuries. The second child was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.
