Bed Race Returns Oct. 22 in Madison
Get ready to cheer for your favorite team. Meetinghouse Lane will be turning into a racecourse on Saturday, Oct. 22 for the third annual Madison Chamber of Commerce Bed Race.
At the event, wheeled beds will be pushed down the course by teams representing businesses, civic organizations, families, and neighbors. Chamber Executive Director Eileen Banisch said 12 beds have already been signed up.
“The bed race idea came from Chamber President Ed Pellegrino, who used to participate in the New Haven Bed Race many years ago,” she said. “It’s just a fun event, and any money raised via sponsorships is used to cover expenses—publicity, signs, DJ, etc.”
The race will begin at 2:15 p.m. Before the race, the beds will be on display at the Academy School-Memorial Town Hall parking area as well as music, food, and kids activities.
After the race, prizes will be awarded to the three fastest beds, as well as to most creative and most in need of improvement.
Local businesses are also involved as sponsors. California King Bed Sponsors are William Raveis Real Estate, Madison Beach Hotel, The Country School, and MJM Self Storage. The Regular (Double Bed) Sponsors are Branford Dental Care, East Shore Mortgage, Guilford Savings Bank, J&J Auto works, Madison Rotary Club, Vista Life Innovations, and Watrous Nursing Center.
