08/31/2016 09:15 AMRegional School District 17 and the Board of Education have continued to examine the infrastructure needs of Haddam-Killingworth High School (HKHS) and, this fall, will propose a revised package of improvements to voters in both towns for approval.
As with the district’s earlier proposal, replacement of the high school’s roof and heating system, as well as the repair and renovation of its auditorium, all of which date back more than 40 years, are necessary due to the end of their lifespan. Installation of a solar energy system and energy upgrades will help to reduce future energy costs and the project’s net cost over time.
The Board of Education will hold a referendum for this project in mid-October. The referendum will include two questions. The first will ask for approval of bonding for the roof and heating and energy systems upgrade. The second question will ask for approval of bonding for the auditorium repair and renovation.
The district encourages community members to attend information sessions to learn more about the project and its costs, with an opportunity for questions and answers.
The schedule is as follows:
Community Information Q&A
-Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Haddam-Killingworth Middle School Auditorium
-Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in the HKHS Auditorium
Board of Education Meeting and Public Hearing
-Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in the HKHS Auditorium
