It's going to be a long couple of weeks for drivers who frequent highly traveled Route 22. Last week, the state started prepping for a road resurfacing project to include the entire 4.11 mile stretch in town. The state has set up signs notifying that paving is underway and will continue through Friday, Sept. 2.

In his weekly report dated August 20, Town Mananger Michael Paulhus noted the road construction has caused some delays. He encouraged residents to adjust their commuting times and plan accordingly. The roadway is also a main line of travel for school bus routes reaching North Branford Intermediate School and North Branford High School on Foxon Road. School starts Monday, August 29.

As previously reported earlier this month, State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-86) sent notification to residents about the Connecticut Department of Transportation project, which is expected to create traffic delays due to lane closures.

Route 22, also known as Forest Road, will be resurfaced from a point including its intersection with Route 80 (near Town Hall) extended on to the junction of Route 22 with Route 17 (Middletown Avenue) in Northford.

Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic control personnel and signs will be in place to guide vehicles and the project's end date may be extended if weather or other unforseen conditions or delays arise.
