Antique Fairs Coming to Madison Green
Throughout August, antique fairs will be taking over the Madison Green, giving visitors and residents alike the chance to get in some unique shopping before the summer begins to wind down. The Madison Exchange Club hosts its Antique Exhibit and Sale on Saturday, Aug. 13 and the Madison Historical Society (MHS) will hold its Annual Antiques fair Saturday, Aug. 27.
This marks the 43rd year the Exchange club will hosting its exhibit. The sale will include a number of antique vendors and a local art show and sale by the Madison Art Society. The event runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and early buying will be available from 8 to 9 a.m. for a $10 fee. Regular admission is $4 and there will be food vendors on location. Proceeds from the event will go toward four child abuse prevention centers in Connecticut and youth programs and scholarships in Madison.
MHS will host its sale for the 45th year this August. The event draws dealers from all over and has grown into largest fair of its kind on the shoreline, according to MHS Executive Director Jennifer Simpson.
“The MHS Antiques Fair typically draws between 75 and 100 dealers,” she said. “Many of the vendors have been longtime participants, but each year we add a handful of new vendors. This year, most are returning dealers.”
Last year the event drew nearly 1,200 visitors according to Simpson. The price of admission is $7 per person and children 12 and under are free.
“All proceeds benefit the Madison Historical Society and help us with the preservation of our historic properties and the educational programs we offer all in an effort to keep Madison’s history alive,” she said.
The gate will open at 9 a.m. Food will also be available throughout the day, courtesy of Spice Catering of Durham.
