Gun Brandished During Branford Road Rage Incident
A Branford man who allegedly pointed a gun at an off-duty police officer during a reported road rage incident yesterday on East Main Street was arrested last night by Branford police. The following press release was issued by Branford Police Department:
July 8, 2016: Yesterday, July 7, at about 9 p.m., Branford Police arrested Anthony Vigliotti, age 29 (DOB 1/5/1987) of 13 Burban Drive Branford, after police received a 911 call from an off-duty New Haven police officer who reported Vigliotti had pointed a handgun at him at the intersection of East Main Street and Windmill Hill Road in Branford.
The off-duty officer told Branford officers that Vigliotti had been tailgating and blowing his horn at him from the intersection of North Main Street and Chestnut Street because he thought Vigliotti wanted to travel at a faster speed. Once at the Windmill Hill intersection, Vigliotti pulled alongside the officer, pointed a small black semi-automatic handgun at him, and then drove off.
Branford Police later located Vigliotti at his residence in possession of a .45 caliber handgun and he was taken into custody. Police determined that Vigliotti had a valid pistol permit, however police seized both the handgun and the Pistol Permit.
Vigliotti was charged with following too close with intent to harass, threatening 2nd degree, reckless endangerment 1st degree, and breach of peace 2nd degree. He was later released on a written promise to appear in New Haven Court on Tuesday, July 19.
