Branford Hiker Fatality: Struck by Train
Branford police reported a fatality involving a 31 year-old Stony Creek resident, after her body was found last night beside railtracks, struck by an eastbound train. She was last seen leaving her Thimble Island Road home for a June 13 hike in nearby woods and was reported missing by police on June 14.
Sarah Addy was found at approximately 7:15 p.m. last night, just east of Thimble Island Road along eastbound tracks, according to Branford Police.
In the hours after locating Addy, detectives were continuing to investigate the circumstances of her death, police said. This is the third fatality involving a Branford resident struck by train in the Branford area within less than a year, with incidents also occuring in October 2015 and April 2016.
Addy was reported missing by Branford police yesterday afternoon. At that time, police sought the public's help in locating the missing hiker, carrying a backpack, who had reportedly left home to hike in nearby woods on the afternoon of June 13. See the report here
According to a press release supplied by Branford Police Department, members of both Connecticut State Police and Amtrak Police located Addy, deceased, along the eastbound railroad tracks, just east of Thimble Island Road.
The press release also stated, "Police investigators believe that Addy was struck by an eastbound train sometime during the nighttime hours last evening. Detectives will continue to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding Addy's death."
