BHS Turf Field Replacement Underway
With the end of the school year, crews got started this week on replacing the synthetic turf field and track at Branford High School (BHS). The $750,000 replacement project was budgeted last year as a part of the Town of Branford's five-year capital improvement plan.
Contractors arrived to start work on Monday, June 6 and had completely removed the rubberized track ringing the field within a few hours' time. Work began this morning to remove the synthetic grass field and crumb rubber underlayment. The replacement will be an upgraded version of the current field and track. The BHS track and field facility is located behind the school building at 185 East Main St.
Due to the field work underway, the BHS track and field will be closed to the public this summer. According to information posted on the Branford Public Schools (BPS) website http://www.branford.k12.ct.us/ the replacement is expected to be completed by mid-August, in time for the start of the 2016-17 school year.
The BPS statement also noted, "We apologize for any inconvenience this may present to the public; however summer is the best time to complete the project as it has the least impact on the school district's operations."
