Dudley Farm Farmers’ Market Opens Saturday

The Dudley Farm Farmers’ Market begins its 2016 summer season on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. The market will be held every Saturday through October, weather permitting.

The Farmers’ Market began at The Dudley Farm in 1995 and is now in its 21st year. It is one of the few markets in the state of Connecticut that operates on a working farm, reflecting the old-time practice of selling produce at a roadside stand.

All produce at the market must be grown in the State of Connecticut by the selling vendor and all art and crafts must be made by the selling vendor. Visitors can find fresh produce, both organic and conventional, and food products, often prepared with ingredients from the local agricultural community. Flowers and plants, baked goods, eggs, honey and maple syrup, jams and jellies, hand-spun yarn, candles, soap, and naturally raised meat are among the goods offered for sale. In addition, craft vendors offer jewelry, handmade paper art, wood bowls and sculpture, pottery, hand-painted glassware, mosaics, fiber art, paintings, photography, quilts, baskets, and more.

Throughout the summer, there are often demonstrations and talks where, for example, one can learn about soap making, beekeeping, or cooking with organic greens. Visitors might even catch The Dudley Farm String Band performing on the lawn.

The Dudley Farm Farmers’ Market takes place at 2351 Durham Road, North Guilford. For more information, call 860-349-3917 or visit www.dudleyfarm.com or the Dudley Farm Museum Facebook page.
