Branford Walkers Ready to Hit the Trail
For more than 25 years, the Branford Walkers have walked Branford’s 28 mile perimeter over an eight-week period, once in the spring, then again in the fall. The walkers meet every Friday at 8:45 a.m. at the week’s endpoint and carpool to the start. Though there is some road walking, most of the walks are on trails that pass through some of Branford’s best natural sites—the coastline, early quarrying areas, Lake Saltonstall, and the northern ridgeline—with brief stops for information on the natural history and town history at various sites. Each section will be under four miles in length, and walkers will return to the cars by noon. Any walk which is canceled due to weather will be done at the end of the series. Water, a snack, and sturdy footwear are recommended. For more information, call “Sam” Saulys at 203-887-5213.
Upcoming Friday walks are on April 1 in Pine Orchard starting at West Point Road ballfield off Thimble Island Road; April 8 in Stony Creek starting at Stony Creek Quarry parking lot at the end of Quarry Road; April 15 in the quarry area starting at United Methodist Church, 811 East Main Street; April 22, North Boundary starting at Northford Road parking area east of Brookhills Road; April 29 in Pisgah Brook starting at Lake Saltonstall Hiker’s Lot, 400 Hosley Avenue; May 6 in Lake Saltonstall starting at Lakeview Center, Rte. 1 opposite Hosley Ave; and May 13 in Short Beach starting at Parker Memorial Park, end of Harbor Street.
