Clinton Goes Crazy for Cupcakes
Remember Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and its spinoff, Cupcake Wars Kids? Clinton has its own brand of the bakeoff, with its own celebrity judges—and a lot more winners.
Families Helping Families and Shoreline Community Women have teamed up to bring Crazy for Cupcakes to Andrews Memorial Town Hall on Saturday, April 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. Twenty-six bakers have entered the competition, and more than 1,200 cupcakes will grace the tables.
The event is free and open to the public, and everyone who attends has a chance to taste the goods. A panel of judges will determine winners based on categories such as appearance, texture, and taste.
“We hope this gives people the opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbors they haven’t seen in a while,” said FHF President Miner Vincent. “Some of Clinton’s notables, including State Representative Jesse MacLachlan, will serve as judges, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. There’s also a special first-place prize.”
Voluntary donations will help fund FHF’s Clinton Kids Initiative and SCW’s Boxes for Soldiers programs. FHF’s Clinton Kids Initiative provides Clinton children with back-to-school supplies, warm winter clothing, after-school snacks, and Christmas gifts. SCW’s Boxes for Soldiers delivers needed items for troops stationed overseas.
“Mailing these boxes is very costly,” says Vincent, “so funds from this event will help offset that cost. These boxes don’t just serve one soldier but are shared with others, so one box helps make life overseas a bit better for many of our troops.”
The last time FHF hosted Crazy for Cupcakes was two years ago, says Vincent, “but we’ve had people asking us if we would bring it back. We thought Shoreline Community Women and their Boxes for Soldiers project would be a very worthy cause to help raise funds for.”
In addition to their friends and neighbors, attendees can expect to find some serious competition at the event—2014 winner Lorraine Hill is back this year to defend her title.
