Leprechaun Run Returns to Madison for 24th Year
Time to find some green running shoes—the Annual Leprechaun 5-Miler and Fun Run is back for its 24th year on Sunday, March 13.
About 500 people are expected to turn out and pound the pavement for the run, which is sponsored and organized by the Exchange Club of Madison. Exchange Club President Ashton Edwards said the run is a big event for the club and noted that all proceeds go towards the club’s child abuse prevention and school programs.
“Our objective is really getting everybody out having a great time and we raise some money,” he said.
The race begins at the Surf Club and goes down Middle Beach Road and then loops back. As usual, the top three men and women will receive awards. New this year, the top three women and men in each of nine age categories also win a prize.
Following the awards, refreshments will be offered to the runners including chowder provided by Lenny & Joe’s, Cohen’s Bagel Company bagels and cream cheese, and refreshments provided by Bishop’s Orchards and Robert’s Food Center.
Edwards said that after 24 years, the club is good at putting this event on, but they can always use some extra help.
“We have about 40 volunteers,” he said. “There is a lot to do.”
The cost to run the 5-miler is $10; the kids Fun Run is free. The race begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 13.
To register for the race or to volunteer, people can visit the Madison Exchange Club website at www.madisonexchange.com or go to the American Legion Hall on Saturday March 12 between noon and 4 p.m.
