3 East Haven Cops Honored for Work on Double Killing

East Haven Police Officer Vincent Ferrara, Sergeant Joseph Mulhern, and Officer Sean Moriarity recently were honored with the town’s Medal of Merit for their investigation into last year’s double homicide.

Three East Haven police officers recently received The Medal of Merit for their work and follow-up in a double-homicide that occurred in June of last year.

Officer Vincent Ferrara, Sergeant Joseph Mulhern, and Officer Sean Moriarty were presented the award from the East Haven Police Department “in appreciation and recognition of exemplary performance, unparalleled dedication, and outstanding efforts while responding to the June 2015 double homicide.”

LeRoya Moore was charged with two counts of murder regarding the deaths of her two children, Aleisha Moore, 6, and Daaron Moore, 7. The children were found dead in the family’s home at 541 Strong Street on June 2.

The office of the chief medical examiner ruled the children died from acute intoxication of diphenhydramine, a drug found in many over-the-counter medications.

When police entered the home, they found a note near the kids’ bodies that was signed by LeRoya Moore. The letter included this: “I let them know they were loved very much and they were going to heaven. We said the Lord’s Prayer to protect their souls. I know this was meant to end the way it did. I don’t know the reason why, but we were meant to die today.”

The letter also stated: “I couldn’t leave any more of my kids to the system...were in pain and now they’re in heaven.”

Moore had five children. The state Department of Children and Families had custody of her three oldest.
