Man Charged after Mechanics Find Cocaine Under Vehicle
A significant of amount of cocaine, crack cocaine and cash have been confiscated by Branford Police, and a New Haven man has been arrested, after the drugs were found secured under his car while it was being serviced at Brandfon Honda yesterday.
Police today confirmed in a press release that officers were called to Brandfon Honda yesterday, March 2, after mechanics servicing a customer's vehicle discovered a large amount of drugs secured to the undercarriage.
The drugs were discovered when the car was put on the shop's lift, causing a case tucked under the vehicle to break and the drugs to fall out, according to police. Police Detectives took the customer, Kevlon Hutchings, 33, of 76 Terrace St. New Haven, into custody while he was waiting for his car to be serviced.
The police investigation revealed Hutchings to be possession of approximately 15 grams of powder cocaine, approximately 15 grams of crack cocaine, one capsule of "Molly", drug packaging material, and $1776 in cash. Police said the items found in Hutchings' possession were "consistent with drug transactions."
Hutchings was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance [21a-277(d)] & Possession 1500 ft. from a school [21a-279(d)]. Brandfon Honda is located at 515 West Main St. in Branford.
Hutchings posted a $25,000 Bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on March 15, 2016.
