East Haven Xpect May Close Week Earlier than Expected
Xpect Discounts will be shutting its doors a week earlier than previously reported, according to those working at the store.
It has previously been reported that Xpect will be closing on April 1, but two workers at the store, who did not want to be named, said the store closing will actually be on Saturday, March 26, the day before Easter Sunday, March 27.
Ohio-based Marc Glassman, Inc., Xpect’s parent company, has consistently refused to comment on the closing.
The store, located on Frontage Road, employs 65.
The town and the leasing agent for the Xpect Discounts site on Frontage Road are actively pursuing a new business to locate there but nothing has materialized yet.
Michael Schaffer, who directs leasing operations for C.A. White, the lessor for Xpect Discounts, said, “We are exploring a number of different operations” for the location, which sits right off Interstate 95 in East Haven.
But, Schaffer said, there is nothing definitive in place “yet.”
Two other Xpect stores, in Milford and Cromwell, were also set to close April 1. The three stores are the last Xpect stores operating in the state of Connecticut.
