Clinton Chamber Promotes ‘Leap of Kindness Day’
What would you do with an extra day on the calendar?
That’s what the Clinton Chamber of Commerce wants to know.
“On Monday, Feb. 29, we all have one additional day in this leap year,” said Lauren Sposato, executive director of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. “We’re encouraging everyone to use this bonus day to do something kind for someone else.”
The Chamber invites Clinton residents and businesspeople to participate in Leap of Kindness Day on Feb. 29, photograph their good deeds, and use the hashtag #leapofkindness so that images can be collected and shared.
“The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce [in Saratoga Springs, New York] developed this idea,” said Sposato, “and I loved it. With their permission, we decided to bring this initiative to Clinton. We’re the first chamber in Connecticut to promote Leap of Kindness Day. It has now been picked up by multiple chambers throughout the country.
“Kindness is contagious, and if we can get a few people do to something kind in the community, it will continue to snowball. We are encouraging everyone to use the ‘extra day’ during this leap year to get out and do a Leap of Kindness, whether it be treating someone to coffee or taking time out of your day to volunteer for a nonprofit organization,” Sposato said.
A list of nonprofits can be found on the Chamber website, clintonct.com. Click Member Directory, then choose the Nonprofit or Civic Organizations category.
For its part, the Board of Directors of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce will be packing boxes on Feb. 29 to donate to the Soldier Project, run by Shoreline Community Women.
“Lynn Mann, who works here at the Chamber, is also the co-chair of Solider Project,” said Sposato. “While we were brainstorming ideas for Leap of Kindness Day, she suggested we could send care packages to the troops. She provided us a list of items, and each member of the board has signed on to bring something. ‘Something for the mind, something for the body, something for the belly,’ Lynn says.”
